Sunborn First Draft Finished!

Yes. At last. I have typed the ending words of the fourth book of The Chaos Chronicles! And they are:

“To be continued…”

Which isn’t a joke, of course, if you’ve been following the Chaos series. My faithful readers have been waiting a lonnnnng time for this fourth book in the series, the fourth of a planned six total. (I was shocked myself to look back at the header in the early chapters: I started this thing in the fall of the year 2000. Oy.)

Note the title of this entry, though. First draft finished. I’ve got a lot of rewriting to do. A lot of rewriting. It all came together and made sense (I think) in the end. But a lot of the 706 manuscript pages of this book are…well, I’ll be polite because this is a family publication…a godawful mess. But that’s okay. Really. Because getting that first draft down is the crucial thing. I can always work with it and straighten out the things that are wrong, once I have it down on paper (or phosphors, or LCD pixels) to look at. It’ll take me a while, and it’ll hurt, but I know I can do it.

Yes! Gimme a high-five, please!

THANK YOU! – I’ve been waiting (as many others have) for the continuation of the Chaos series. I understand the delays but it’s been a frustrating time checking back every couple of months to see if it’s coming. The series started strong and got better with each book – I can’t want for the next three.

    Thank You Sir.

It has been an agonizing wait. Somewhere I read that your newest was finished so I kept searching all the book stores and Library site but to no avail. I am so glad to see that this is a more definitive source of information on your indomitable progress. It is with anticipation I wait for the launch of the next ship. in your series.

Thanks for your great works. Keep at it.

Thanks, Bill, I appreciate the support. I forget where it was that the book was reported as scheduled for publication–but it sent a lot of people on a fruitless search. Sorry about that!

Can’t wait to find out more about ‘Shipworld’ and its function in the grand scape of things – thanks a lot for the detail you put into story lines – take your time but for pete sakes make sure to finish them 🙂

By the way – have you read the Reality Dysfuncion series by Hampton – If so, Im curious if you liked it… Do you watch the Battlestar Galactica series? It is awsome!!!

Dear Atmosphere — I’m delighted to hear that you enjoyed Strange Attractors, though I’m curious what you do that you found it on a shelf at work! I’ve not read the Hampton books, no. And yes, I watch and really like the new Battlestar Galactica. Writing the novelization of the miniseries got me hooked!

Thanks Jeffrey – I work in a residential Tx program for youth moving from detention back into the community. I would guess that at some point one of the kids had your book and left it here when they went AWOL – or another staff brought it in and ‘donated’ it at some point. Whats really cool is that I used to read a bunch when I was younger but had not been reading at all – since I found your books Ive been reading almost every night for a couple of hours – if the stories would have been lame it would have likely been another long stint before I picked up another book… So thanks! When you did book for Battlestar did you use script or did you watch that episode over and over?

Wow! That’s great! Thanks for the compliment.

Re Galactica — both. I’ve written fairly extensively about it here on the blog. If you click on “Pushing a Snake” you’ll get the whole blog in one go, and if you scroll down you’ll find it.

Jeff, I’m not much for writing so I’ll keep it short. I’ve been reading SF for 52 years and came upon your CHAOS CHRONICLES. I’m finishing up book three and all of them were great. Looking forward to the next one in the series. Hope it’s out soon. LBB

I jsut finished reading the first three books yesterday. I thought it was only a trilogy. When I got to the end of the third book and discovered it would continue, I thought I had to have the next book right away. I was sorry to find out it wasn’t out yet. But I am also glad that you completed the draft of number four and was happy to find out two more are planned after that. Congratulations on completing #4!

I really enjoyed the series and am looking forward to its completion.

I just found this series in the library and I fell in love. It takes me 2 days to read each book; I can’t seem to put them down!

I just want to say thank you for such enjoyable books! I am waiting, with bated breath, to experience their next adventure . . .

Jeff, I just sent you an email about Sunborn, then went to your website and found that the first draft has been completed! Wow, do you ever have loyal fans or what? I’m one. Number 3 of Chaos Chronicles was copywrited in 1996, ten years ago. I’ve been waiting a long time, but haven’t given up! I thought Sunborn was the final in the series, now I find there are 2 more, oh no! I hope both of us live long enough to see #6 published. I haven’t read any SF for some time now. Just couldn’t bear it until #4 finally came out. I’ve read most of the popular SF writers. You are one of my favorites, as you can tell.

    Hello Mr Carver,
I’m VERV glad to read the good news about the CHAOS CHRONICLES Part IV coming soon…
Well, I hope SOON. In my country it took 8 (eight!!!) years from the original release of THE INFINITE SEA until the translated version!
I give them 3 month (max.) or I’ll order the original this time – it’s a MUST HAVE for a SF Fan like me.
Your books have been put in a row with Asimov’s Foundation, Niven’ s Ringworld and Tilley’s Amtrak Wars – on my bookshelf.
It’s alphabetical order there – so you are only #2 😉
    Keep up the good work!

Frank! You didn’t say what country you live in! Eight years…that must be either the German or the Porteugese translation.

I am to turn the manuscript in at the end of this month. Publication is scheduled for fall 2007. (But translation…ah, who knows? Most of those eight years were waiting for someone to buy the rights.)

    Thanks for the wonderful compliment!

    Jeff
