Someone forwarded this to me, and I finally watched it. Whoa! It’s really good. Creepy, in an SFnal sort of way. Watch it when you have 8 minutes to spare, and see what the future of our news media could be. (The cyberpunkers predicted it ages ago, but this makes it seem very immediate.)

Interesting, but is the situation it describes really any different from what we have now? If you want careful insightful analysis, you can get it, but there’s plenty of shallow content out there as well.

True enough. It’s a matter of scale, isn’t it? Most of us are already drowning in a sea of information, much of it of unknown reliability. And it’s only going to get worse.
Theoretically, the editorial process of newspaper (or book) publishing is supposed to provide a certain check for veracity. We all know that procedure is flawed, but I tend to think it’s better than no check at all. No one edits this blog except me. If you don’t know me, why should you believe anything I say? (Well, you might say that even if you do know me.)
On the other hand, you shouldn’t always believe what you read in peer-reviewed journals, either.
