No, tsmacro, you weren’t the only one bothered by what the LOTR movie did to Faramir! (I’m responding, by the way, to a comment posted to the blog entry directly below this one.)
Have you seen Jar-Jaromir? You must look. Click the link.
Oh—and I’m glad you like the blog!

*LOL* That’s pretty cute! Luckily Peter didn’t do anything that drastic! Nothing like they did to EarthSea on Sci-Fi! Yikes! That was a travesty. It was like the producers of that said well we’re going to take your world Ms. LeGuin, your characters and then make up our own story with maybe a scene or two from your books thrown in.

I haven’t watched Earthsea yet, but the latest issue of The Authors Guild Bulletin has a piece by Ms. LeGuin describing exactly what the producers did. Pretty much as you described. She was not pleased.

Yeah, what she said about it on her website said something to the extent of: The producers of the show claimed to be “true to the spirit of the books”. But in her view it was as true to the spirit of her books as if The Lord of the Rings movie ended with Frodo keeping the ring and ruling Middle Earth happily ever after!
